Within the framework of an FAO project to strengthen emergency preparedness for Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza, SAFOSO designed and delivered a regional workshop on risk-based surveillance for Avian Influenza in Chiang Mai, Thailand for participants from across Asia.

Building upon personal experience of participants with surveillance programs for diseases other than AI in their own countries, principles of risk-based surveillance were applied to outline the contours of AI risk-based surveillance programs under different epidemiological conditions.
