Capacity building for the control and prevention of BSE
SAFOSO, in close collaboration with FAO, implemented a Swiss-funded project in Serbia and Egypt with the aim of strengthening the governmental veterinary services and supporting industries in order to prepare them for the implementation of a comprehensive and needs-based prevention and control program for BSE.
SAFOSO, in close collaboration with FAO, implemented a Swiss-funded project in Serbia and Egypt with the aim of strengthening the governmental veterinary services and supporting industries in order to prepare them for the implementation of a comprehensive and needs-based prevention and control program for BSE. Knowledge was disseminated through a train-the-trainer approach. Key topics of the training courses were
- epidemiology, surveillance and risk assessment
- management of animal feed and feeding
- management of meat production and
- diagnostics.
The courses also included disease awareness, SPS compliance and risk communication. All courses offered a mix of theory, field visits, practical work and case studies.
