The aim of this project was to ascertain the current BSE situation in Brazil in order to propose possible measures to reduce the risks of introduction and amplification of the BSE agent, as well as to prevent transmission from cattle to man and ruminants. The main reason is to keep Brazil and Argentina in the position of leading exporters of beef and beef products in the world market, as well as to ensure national animal health and food safety. The project, which was financed by the private sector was conducted by national teams, which provided the data, and led by SAFOSO teams, which analysed the data.
