Using behavioural sciences to strengthen biosecurity in the U.S. poultry sector

We’re proud to share a peer-reviewed publication that is part of our two-year broader collaboration with Texas A&M AgriLife Research and the Institute for Infectious Animal Diseases (IIAD).

The study investigates what motivates U.S. poultry farmers to adopt strict biosecurity measures, particularly under high disease pressure. Using a behavioural science approach, it examines the social, psychological, and structural factors influencing farmers’ decisions. The findings provide guidance for education, communication, and extension programs aimed at improving biosecurity adoption nationwide, ultimately safeguarding animal health, public health, and farmers’ livelihoods.
