Tailored workshop on COVID-19 for a large agriculture cooperative

October 14, 2020

SAFOSO has organized a workshop on COVID-19/ SARS-CoV-2 for Fenaco, a large Swiss agriculture cooperative.

The crisis management team set up by the Fenaco’s management is constantly monitoring developments relating to the coronavirus. Measures have been implemented based on the one hand on the official regulations and recommendations and on the other hand on the specific conditions in the company. Various emergency concepts for the event of an epidemic or pandemic have been prepared. See Fenaco website.

As part of their continued pro-active vigilance, Fenaco’s crisis management team has participated in an on-site workshop, organized by SAFOSO, that addressed their specific concerns. The workshop was a tailor-made training, that included background information on the SARS-CoV-2 virus and its epidemiology, on testing and test result interpretation, as well as reflecting the current situation in Switzerland.

Apart from general background knowledge, the Fenaco team was particularly interested in specific themes that apply to their operation and measures that can be taken to minimize risk.

Specific topics discussed during the workshop included

  • How does the virus spread and what protective measures can be taken?
o  How and when to use protective masks
o  What are aerosols and how do they spread the virus, how can staff be protected
o  Hygiene concept in SARS-CoV-2 hotspots while maintaining production capacity
o  What is the role of food in the spread of SARS-CoV-2
  • Diagnostic testing
o  What are possible strategies within operations
o  How to interpret the test result
o  Test concepts in a hotspot to maintain production capacity
  • How to prepare for the coming seasons?
o  The most likely scenarios for the fall and winter season for the epidemic
o  How can vaccines be applied
o  Do prophylactic influenza vaccinations make sense

The workshop was well-received and the outcomes of the discussion will lead to the implementation of specific measures to help protect the cooperative from the impact caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
