SAFOSO is one of four Swiss organizations implementing a Swiss-funded capacity building project in Mongolia. The goal of this project is to improve the Mongolian animal health system and increase its effectiveness. This goal will be achieved by the implementation of activities in three areas:
Strengthening technical capabilities from legislation to implementation of staff from the veterinary services in order to create a solid and well-organized service meeting OIE standards;
Development and implementation of control and eradication programs for brucellosis and FMD;
Strengthening of the formal education for the bachelor of veterinary medicine at the School of Veterinary Medicine and Biotechnology of the Mongolian State University of Agriculture by reviewing and modifying the curriculum and by investing in human resource development of teachers of the veterinary school.
SAFOSO is responsible for implementation of activities in two areas. First, SAFOSO supports the government in the development of an FMD control and eradication strategy. After the strategy has been established, SAFOSO will support the government in the design and implementation of measures and surveillance activities, including training of official veterinarians. Second, SAFOSO provides support to the establishment of a state-of-the-art curriculum for the veterinary school and contributes to the training of staff to strengthen their technical and didactic skills.
