Dairy cattle diseases can have negative implications for the production and marketing of dairy products. The business risk that arises from such diseases depends mainly on the epidemiological status and on the type of business impact: transmission to humans, reduction of productivity, disruption of supply chain, trade restrictions, or negative impact on product image.
SAFOSO has developed generic guidelines for risk management in dairy cattle diseases for Nestlé. Implementation has started and field visits have confirmed the feasibility. A refinement of the guidelines will ensure a maximum effect, taking local circumstances into consideration.
