Annette Nigsch

Annette is a veterinary public health specialist with Austrian roots. Her field of expertise covers a wide range of key disciplines of veterinary public health, such as epidemiology, statistics, risk assessment and communication.

Annette is a veterinary graduate from the Veterinary University of Vienna, obtained a Master degree in veterinary epidemiology at the Royal Veterinary College and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in London, and is a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Public Health.  

Having worked both in research and for veterinary services, Annette likes the challenge of connecting the best available scientific evidence to governmental work. She is experienced in the planning, implementation and evaluation of programmes for the early detection, surveillance and control of diseases of livestock and wildlife, as well as food safety in the context of animal health.  Her most recent professional contributions include building up a national early detection system for animal diseases in Switzerland, developing a surveillance and control strategy for tuberculosis in wildlife in western Austria and analysing spread dynamics of infectious diseases in animal populations at Wageningen University and Research.
